My first trip to Switzerland was in February 1995. I was at the end of a long stay in Paris, dying to get some fresh air. I took the train to Lausanne to stay with some friends I had met back in Australia.
I saw the alps across Lake Geneva and I was awestruck. I have kept coming back, slowly exploring the whole region around the lake. Ironically, most of the alps on the southern shores of Lake Geneva are in France. The highest of them all is Mont Blanc, at just under 5000 metres is visible on a clear day from Geneva to Lausanne.
