Friends moved to Aubonne in the 2000s to have more space for growing boys. Over many stays I have got to know the town and made more friends as well, often like all of us not originally from the village.
Medieval Aubonne is packed into barely 500 metres across, all the better to defend against invaders. It sits above a river and a ravine, surrounded by forest and vines.
On a clear day from the bus stop near the Rue du Chaffard and the Route de Bougy, you can see Mont Blanc, its permanently white summit jutting 4809 metres high above all the other alps of Western Europe.
